How to Get a Sexual Health Related Examination

Sexual health related examination is very important for all of us. The doctor will ask you about your sex life, your state of mind, and your body during the examination.

People who are sexually active need sexual health related examination to keep an eye on their sexual health. It is ideal to have regular sexual health checks from a doctor or a nurse. Here, you will know how to get a sexual health related examination.

It can be helpful:

If you are sexually active and you haven’t had your sexual health check recently or ever.

If you think you are having an STI (sexually transmitted infection),you need to consult a doctor about it.

If you want to know how sexual health related examination works.

When Do You Need Sexual Health Check

If you are sexually more active, you should visit a doctor at least once every six months to know about your sexual health. You don’t need to feel shy or nervous about it. Doctors and nurses deal with this stuff every single day.

A sexual health related examination is compulsory if you are facing the following circumstances:

You think you are infected with an STI

You recently had unprotected sex, including vaginal, anal, or oral sex

Your condom fell off or broke while having sex

You have started a new sexual relationship

You have shared injecting equipment with someone

You or your partner has more than one sexual partner

How does a Sexual Health Check Works?

During sexual health related examination, the doctor will ask you about your sex life, your state of mind, and your body. However, various tests are involved in sexual health checks such as STIs, sexual dysfunction, blood or urine tests, and women's cervical cancer. These tests also include discussion regarding:

Reproductive issues, like fertility

Your feelings regarding sex

Your rights in sexual relationships

The doctors usually ask some questions, like:

How many sexual partners do you have or had in the past?

Who do you prefer to have sex with men, women, or maybe both?

What type of sexual activity did you perform?

Are you having any symptoms regarding sexual health or reproductive problem?

Moreover, a physical checkup is also part of your sexual health related examination. Doctors can ask for your permission to perform:

A urine or swab sample

A blood test

Examining the external genital area

Taking swabs of fluid or discharging on a cotton bud to perform an examination under a microscope

A vaginal checkup, like a pap smear, putting a swab inside your vagina for testing the signs of cervical cancer

Is It Always Awkward?

Sexual health related examination can be uncomfortable, embarrassing, and awkward for many people, but remember that these checks are routine for a doctor, and it is part of their job. You need to be open and honest and share everything with your doctor.

How Long Will it Take to Get the Results?

The time of results depends on the test performed because many of the STIs require lab tests which means it can take few days to get the test reports. However, you need to prevent having sex during this period without necessary precautions.

All of these tests will not be linked with the E-health system to ensure the confidentiality of the patients. The clinic will share the results through a phone call or text message. You should always go for this checkup for your own good.
